Who is Thoopul Nigamantha Desikan?

                              Swami Desikan (1268-1370)

Swamy Desikan was true Vaishnavite in letter and spirit in post
Ramanuja period. He was a poet devotee, philosopher and master-
teacher(Desikan)He was the disciple of Kidambi Appullar, also
known as Athreya Ramanujachariar, who himself was master –
disciple lineage that began with Ramanuja. Swami Desika is
considered to be Avathar (incarnation) of divine bell of Sri
Venkateswara of Thirumalai. That is why after Swami’s birth, Bell is not
used in that temple (Thirupathi).

Swami Desikan is known as whom systematically and scientifically
made available the holy Vedas to all. He was called the “Kavi
Tarikika Simham” (Lion-king among poets and logicians) by Appayya
Dikshitar by the ineffable charm of his poetry and irrefragable power
of reasoning. “Even in the simple and soft compositions of this Lion of
both poets and logicians, there is poetic excellence evident at every
step and indeed in every word.

He was also called “Sarva Tantra Swatantra” (master of all arts, crafts
and artifacts) because his shows intimate knowledge of almost all
arts and sciences known to human intelligence. His works brim with
philosophical grandeur, ethical excellence and aesthetic glory.
